The green indicator lamp in the instrument cluster lights up when the system is activated. The blue indicator lamp lights up when the system switches on the high beams. At the bottom passenger side (when installed in the car), there is a steel lever with a hole in it. If you can get a 90 degree or u shaped pick tool and pull on the lever, the tailgate will open. Removing the battery will give you more room to get to the lever, but I managed to remove it without removing the battery.
